Founder-Director of Don Bosco Centre, Bengtol
Rev. Fr. Joseph Zubizarreta, SDB, (16 September 1930 – 6 February 2012), was a devoted Salesian missionary and a visionary educator whose life was entirely dedicated to the upliftment, education, and spiritual formation of young people. As a member of the Salesians of Don Bosco (SDB), he faithfully lived the spirit of St. John Bosco — Reason, Religion, and Loving Kindness — and brought these values to the people of Assam, especially to the community of Bengtol.
Fr. Zubizarreta served as the Founder-Director of Don Bosco Centre, Bengtol, where his mission was to create a safe, nurturing, and value-based educational environment for children and youth from remote and underserved regions. Through his compassion and deep pastoral commitment, he became a father figure to many, guiding them not only but also morally and spiritually.
Under his leadership, the Don Bosco institutions in Bengtol grew in strength and reputation. His dedication helped lay a strong foundation for what would become a respected centre for education, discipline, and character formation in the region. He worked tirelessly to ensure that every child—especially the poor and marginalized—received opportunities to learn, grow, and build a better future.
Known for his simplicity, humility, and tireless service, Fr. Joseph Zubizarreta left behind a legacy of love, sacrifice, and transformative education. His vision continues to guide the mission of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Bengtol, and the entire community fondly remembers him as its founding father and enduring inspiration.
